Lake bunyonyi is located in the South Western part of Uganda shared by Kisoro and Kabale districts and is close to the Rwandan border just about 2 hours’ drive from Kigali Rwanda’s capital.
Lake Bunyonyi is as well as known as Uganda’s deepest lake and second in Africa with a varying depth between 44m and 900m, a width of 7km and 25km long.
The lake is lying on an altitude of about 1962meters above sea level leaving it in a position of second deepest lake in Africa. Derives its name from small birds which resides on the lake ‘’place of many little birds’’
It is commonly known for its fresh waters, moderate temperatures and ever changing climate that is mostly cool in the mornings and evenings, let alone the scenery that is characterized by the flourishing green terraced hills and the breathtaking 29 Islands that are scattered transversely in the central part of the water.
The Lake is among Uganda’s few lakes that are Bilharzia free and safe for swimming. Reaching the park takes about 7 hours’ drive from the Kampala Uganda’s capital and largest city. Many activities can be enjoyed at the lake so it such a must visit destination while on a Ugandan safari.

Day 1-Travel from Kampala to Lake Bunyonyi
Lake Bunyonyi tours, you will be met and picked-up by our safari guide/driver either at the hotel in Kampala/Entebbe, after set off to Southwestern part of Uganda for the lifetime experience in Lake Bunyonyi. Before arriving at the Lake, make a stopover at the equator crossing for photography and also if interested buy some souvenirs. Proceed to Mbarara town where you will have lunch before heading to Kabale. Day 2- Tour around Lake Bunyonyi
On this morning after breakfast, enjoy a magical cultural experience and visit the Abaheesi and Batwa communities, you will interact with them as they teach you some of their norms and culture; it is surely a good time spent here. Come back to the lodge for lunch and later go for a boat cruise on the lake where you will get chance to view various birds among many others. The lake has beautiful landscape including some of the 29 islands including the punishment island and the guide will help to explain why it was named. Day 3- Travel back to Kampala
Have breakfast and your guide will take you for a nature walk around, and have the last glance of the stunning landscape around the area. You will arrive in Kampala in the evening which marks the end of your tour around the beautiful lake.
