UWA Arrested Suspected Chimpanzee Killers
Arrested Suspected Chimpanzee Killers: Following the killing of two chimpanzee by poacher which happened about 4 month. At Kabwoya wildlife reserve, Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) arrested suspected killers.
UWA announced the arrest of Yafesi Baguma. A notorious poacher following the killing of the two chimpanzees found dead in cassava plantation. UWA inspection team together with Uganda police arrested Baguma. In an operation mounted on 10th January 2022 that ended up successful.
However the arrest came after an intelligence tip off. A combined operation by UWA rangers and Uganda Police. The suspect Baguma fled his home after a month ago. Arrested Suspected Chimpanzee Killers, And found in Kakindo village in Kakumiro district. After killing the two chimpanzees. Baguma learning that police and the wildlife authority were investigating for the poachers, he ran 104 km away from Kabwoya Wildlife Reserve. On September 27th 2021, the arrested Baguma 36 years. And three others including Nabasa Isiah 27 years, Tumuhairwe John 22years and Baseka Eric 25 suspected to have killed two chimpanzees at Nyaigugu village, Kimbugu parish Kabwoya sub county, Kikube district. The three are also on remand in connection to same case.
Meanwhile, Baguma transported to Kampala Central Station. From where he will be arraigned before the Utilities, Standards and Wildlife Court and charged with Illegal killing of protected species.
Finally the Authority promised to continue with the hunt. For the remaining suspect so that all the five suspects are brought answerable before the courts of law.
